Curtain Design and Window Treatments
We are offering a one to five day intensive course
covering:
Day One:
-
How to decide on the best window treatment for your
home and how to measure various window styles
correctly.

Estimate fabric quantities, and suitability of
fabric and design for different shaped windows
-
To join fabric widths matching pattern repeats
-
Joining linings and interlining
-
You will make a lined sample curtain using
traditional hand stitching, with mitred corners and
weights.
Day Two:
-
Discussion on different types of poles, tracks and
pelmets
-
Demonstration of the different types of handmade
curtain headings such as double and triple pleats,
goblets, eyelets, wave and box pleats using buckram.

How to calculate curtain handmade headings
-
You will make an interlined and lined sample with
buckram heading and French (triple) pleats
Day Three:
-
How to make curtains with contrast edgings, braid
and beading
-
How to design and measure for awkward shaped
windows, including correct hardware and how to dress
the finished curtains

How to construct goblets and box pleats
-
You will make a interlined sample with goblet pleats
and a contrast edge
Day Four:
-
How to design and fit a Roman Blind
-
Whether to use a kit or traditional batten
-
How to construct a blind with or without top
stitching
-
You will make a sample Roman blind with no visible
top stitching
Day Five:
-
How to design and fit a fabric valance
-
How to design and fit an upholstered pelmet
-
You will make a sample hard pelmet with a trimmed
edge
-
Comprehensive discussion on setting up and running
your own soft furnishings business, including
pricing, estimates, presentation and suppliers
